He was one of the nation's most-wanted criminals. 49 year old Arcade Joseph Comeaux was shackled to a wheelchair when he drew a weapon as he was being transferred from one prison unit in Huntsville to another in Beaumont. Authorities from various law enforcement agencies gathered at the Harris County Sheriff's Office to announce his capture. Comeaux was arrested at a business on East Little York.
Adrian Rodriguez : "As soon as we saw him, we knew it was him."
Houston Police Officer Adrian Rodriguez is a six year member of the department.
"After reading the call slip, it stated that there was a black male with a wet t-shirt and looked like it could possibly be the escapee that police officers were looking for in Baytown. Me and my partner thought about it, and said this probably is the guy that we're looking for. So, as we approached the address of this location, and in the lobby cautiously, of course we drew our weapons, saw the suspect sitting in a chair inside the lobby office with his hands on his lap. Me and my partner both approached the door cautiously, as I remained with my weapon drawn, my partner came in and handcuffed the suspect."
Officer Rodriguez says Comeaux offered no resistance even though 2-pistols were found on him.
"What's going through my mind is I'm a little scared but, we've had great training with HPD and we made a great arrest today."
Marco Villarreal is commander of the Gulf Coast Violent Offenders Task Force. He says everyone involved in law enforcement realize that any situation can go bad.
"And when they do, they go bad real quick, but we're very fortunate that we have him in custody and that's what we're here for is to celebrate the spice of everything. How everybody worked together, and just for one mission, one purpose, and that's just phenomenal to have this many law enforcement agencies come and just getting the job accomplished."
Comeaux faces additional charges stemming from his escape. Authorities will now try to get him to tell them how he was armed in prison, who helped him in and out of the lockup, and how he was able to claim the the need for a
wheelchair when he able to walk.
