In a climate where outside media conglomerates have purchased most locally owned radio stations, the independent local public broadcasting station's role in the community is critically important.
Houston Public Radio is devoted to creating an informed democracy, with the purpose of serving our citizens. We identify and address community needs as a concerned neighbor, both with our programming, production, educational outreach initiatives and cultural events. Houston Public Radio is valuable to southeast Texas and other media enterprises due to its trusted programming standard and state of the art facilities.
Consequently, the Houston Public Radio Endowment seeks to ensure that educational and inspirational programming will continue to be available for future generations by raising $5 million to seed the development of new local programs and provide a base of resources for our creative activities. The new fund will provide capital for Houston Public Radio to sustain a position of greater strength and influence for programs of excellence.
Houston Public Radio is grateful to George Geary of GB Tubulars, John White, Board member of Rachel Foundation, and Leslie J. Flynne and John MacFarlane, Director, Milestone Venture Group for their investment in our future.
