As the chief financial officer for Public Broadcasting at the University of Houston, Georgeann Smith oversees the financial activities, human resources and business operations of both KUHF-FM and KUHT-TV, and the financial accounting for the Association for Community Broadcasting. Georgeann is also the former Chair on the Board of Directors of the Public Broadcasting Management Association, a national organization of public broadcasting professionals. She has been with KUHF for sixteen years, serving the last eleven as administrator for both stations.
She is a graduate of the University of Houston, where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Education. After college she taught high school choir for a period, then quickly moved into financial information systems in an oil-service related industry. She says that working in public broadcasting at the University of Houston has brought her back fully into the realm of arts education, utilizing both her arts and financial talents.
Georgeann Smith sings soprano in the Houston Public Radio Chamber Ensemble. Her vocal teachers include: Jean Preston, Lynn Griebling and Judith Carman. Her earlier violin studies under Josephine Boudreaux and Fredell Lack remain a formative influence. Over the years she has performed as soloist in many Houston area churches and choruses, and currently sings at Houston’s historic Christ Church Cathedral, in the Cathedral Choir directed by Robert Simpson.
Outside the office, Georgeann enjoys reading, baking bread and time with her husband, children and grandchildren.
