Capella Tucker joined KUHF in the spring of 1994 as a part-time reporter. She quickly gained a full-time position when she took over production duties for Engines of Our Ingenuity while still reporting for the news room. For ten years starting in 1997, Capella was the local news host for Saturday Weekend Edition and Car Talk. Today as Director of Programming for KUHF News, Capella oversees an award-winning news team of seven talented reporters and anchors.

Capella's work as a reporter has been recognized by peers across the region. She received an Edward R. Murrow Award from the Radio Television News Directors Association for her coverage of Houston's response to Katrina evacuees at the Astrodome.

She's also been recognized by the Texas Associated Press Broadcasters over the years with the most recent being a first place award for her medical reporting. In 2001 she received a first place award for government/political reporting. In the same year, she was recognized as the Lone Star Award's Radio Journalist of the Year by the Houston Press Club.

Capella handles the news internship program which allows those interested in pursuing a career in broadcast journalism an inside look at the daily demands of a public radio news room. Capella remains actively involved in the Engines program, in particular, the production of the Engines CD for fundraising campaigns.

Capella's other activities include being a member of the Houston Press Club. She served as a board member for a couple of years. Capella also spent several years teaching broadcast writing at Alvin Community College.

Capella was born and raised in Maine. Her father served in the Coast Guard so she did spend several years living in California during her childhood. (By the way, her father was the one to name her when she was born. Capella is the name of the star in the constellation Auriga.) She's a 1992 graduate of the University of Maine.

Today she lives in Pearland, Texas with her husband and daughter. The family loves to take road trips ... that is if they can ever get out of town. There's a good chance of catching Capella and her daughter at Astros games throughout the season, although she remains a Red Sox fan first and foremost.
