UH Emergency Warning System Explained
August 13, 2012
by: Ed Mayberry
University of Houston Police Lieutenant Bret Collier says UH has a system that allows for instant notification.
"We can quickly send messages via email, via text, even via phone using a text-to-voice feature in conjunction with out sirens for, you know, a shelter-in-place type action. You know, what we really stress to the community is that we absolutely need them to have their contact information up-to-date in My UH database."
Lt. Collier says emergency messages are coordinated through the campus police department and emergency management. The system is also used for other incidents, such as warnings for robberies and rapes.
You may have heard the term "active shooter" described yesterday and it is defined here.
